See Caregivers As Your Partners
Published
Thank you for participating in the Embracing Caregivers Challenge!
We hope that it has been helpful in reminding you to embrace the caregiver as your partner in patient care. Your job is to take care of the patient and the caregiver is taking the torch from you. You want it to burn bright for years to come. That’s why it’s imperative to place as much emphasis on the caregiver as you do on the patient.
Before they leave your care, ensure the caregiver has everything they need for optimal physical and emotional health. At minimum, remind them to:
- Eat healthy foods
- Get enough sleep
- Get daily physical activity
- Connect with friends
- Spend time on a hobby
- Relax with a good book, meditation, or soothing music
- Take regular breaks
- Have a respite and emergency plan
If you feel they need additional support, direct them to organizations that can help, such as:
- Embracing Carers
- Caregiver Action Network (CAN)
- National Alliance for Caregiving
- Family Caregiver Alliance (FCA)
- Next Step in Care
Use the social media links on the left side of your page to share it with a nurse and invite them to join Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation! Missed day 9? Catch up here.
