Show Others What Gratitude Looks Like
Published
Sometimes people are hesitant to be the first to do something. That’s especially true with random acts of kindness or gratefulness. Step up to the challenge and set an example for those around you — they are watching!
While practicing physical distancing (of course), incorporate one of these ideas into your day:
- Hold the door open for someone
- When someone says or does something nice for you, smile and say “thank you!”
- Go out of your way to compliment someone
- Let someone with fewer items in their grocery cart go ahead of you during check-out
- Treat a colleague to a beverage or snack
- Thank someone you wish would thank YOU
You can show coworkers and loved ones what gratitude looks like. Today, set an example for those around you.
How are you doing in the challenge? Here are some responses from other nurses in our HNHN Connect Community:
- Today I’m particularly grateful for the chance to keep working. While it takes long hours, I’ve been trying to keep my focus on the patients and families I’ll be helping this weekend.
- Setting actual intention to be grateful each day has not only helped me but also those around me. I feel I’ve changed by embracing each day as it is-whether the way I planned or not. I’m even finding ways to help my patients find at least one thing they can be grateful even in illness.
- Giving a compliment is a great way to get out of myself as well as make someone else smile and or feel recognized. I think it's an awesome way to express gratitude!
