Examine And Adjust Course
Published
Is your self-care reward worth the effort? Pleasure or disappointment are the feedback your brain uses to decide if a task is worthwhile. If you’re not experiencing a “reward” from your self-care habit, you’re less likely to keep doing it.
We’re at a point in the challenge when you might want to step back and examine the outcome of your new habit. Do you feel a sense of accomplishment from it? Do you feel healthier physically, mentally, or emotionally? Do you feel like your well is filling up or the weight on your shoulders is lifting?
If not, it’s time to adjust your self-care goal. Maybe try changing how often you do the activity or alter the kind of self-care you’re giving yourself. Whatever it is, the reward should be worth the effort you’re making to build self-care into your routine. A satisfying reward will encourage you to keep up with your self-care.
Before we move on to the rest of the challenge, take a moment to make sure your self-care goal is serving you and creating the outcome you desire. If you need more guidance, read our blog post on Self-Care for the Caregiver.
