Cut Yourself Some Slack
Published
As nurses, we face serious issues, so it’s even more important to be gentle and forgiving with ourselves” - health coach Camille Adair, RN
The golden rule is to treat others the way you want to be treated. As a nurse, you have great empathy and compassion for other people. What would happen if you treated yourself the same way?
Your self-care goal might not be a ritual yet. It might not even be a habit. That’s OK! This is only Day 9. Like we said, habits normally take 66 days to stick, but we only have 10 days for this challenge so we’re on an accelerated timeline here. That means, if you’re not completing your self-care task according to the goals you set or you’re having trouble getting in the habit, give yourself some grace.
Remember: No matter what detour you take during your wellness journey, you always have an opportunity to start fresh, to begin again. Show compassion for yourself on the “bad” days — that alone is some serious self-care.
“It’s easy for us to focus on what's wrong within ourselves,” says Adair. “We also need to be looking for what's right and celebrating the positive within us.”
