American Nurses Association\California (ANA\C) is a proud HNHN partner. Ever since the HNHN inception, ANA\C has been participating; we were a key beta-site tester before HNHN’s national kick off. Prior to HNHN launch, at ANA\C’s General Assembly 2016 in Redondo Beach, CA, we already had an HNHN Keynote Speaker presentation. In fact, we started our ANA\C General Assembly 2016 with gentle yoga on the hotel’s rooftop and we served fish, vegetables and apples during our award luncheon.
ANA\C Board of Directors, during their in-person meetings, also moved to healthy nutritious choices with serving apples, granola, quinoa, and a variety of salads. Several of our Board members are vegan and/or vegetarian so when choosing a restaurant or a meal, we are mindful of healthy choices. ANA\C staff take the stairs to our 4th floor office whenever possible and we are also mindful of the importance of periodic stretches, standing up, and walking.
For organizational cooperation, ANA\C shares HNHN monthly updates and resources with our coalition partner-the Association of California Nurse Leaders (ACNL) as the co-chairs of ACNL’s Healthy Work Environment committee are also active ANA\C members. Furthermore, we share all our resources, tips and links with our members with frequent e-blasts, weekly editions of ANA\C Flash, and updates on our Facebook.
In terms of raising state-wide awareness about the importance of nurses being and keeping healthy, during Nurses Week 2017, our Executive Director was invited to present on HNHN at UCLA’s Nurses Week. We also include HNHN in all our presentations and speeches, especially with nursing students. The importance of self-care is paramount for the health and well-being of our next nursing generation and the fact that ANA initiated this important national movement makes us proud to belong to such a forward-thinking organization.
