Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation™ - Champion Spotlight Series - Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC)

Read how GBMC successfully promotes and weaves HNHN into their existing wellness program and initiatives.
As a Champion in Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation™ (HNHN), Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC) acknowledges that one of our greatest assets is our staff. We inform staff of the HNHN messages in many ways – in our Pulse newsletter, via email, through shift-change huddles, by bulletin board, and by hosting information tables throughout the organization.
Among our most popular health and wellness opportunities are our Greater Wellness Programs – a collection of programs and medical plans designed to promote better care and wellness. This allows us to build healthier communities – starting with our own employees.
In support of GBMC’s commitment to providing quality health care, our Wellness Program is an opportunity for employees to make their own commitment to maintain their health for the immediate and long-term.
All employees enrolled in the Platinum Medical Plan are eligible for the GBMC Wellness Program, which provides a significant premium discount for completing five (5) Wellness Program activities during the year. These benefit-plan wellness activities are offered in addition to many other organizational and company-sponsored community wellness initiatives such as RunGBMC, Flu Shot Drive, Skin Check, the Employee Assistance Program and much more!
In addition to our Greater Wellness program benefits, we recently opened a Fitness and Wellness Center for employees. This private, employee-only center allows staff an environment where they can improve both physically and mentally at a low-cost.
GBMC is proud to collaborate with Sodexo to meet the needs of patients and healthcare team members alike, offering menus which transparently showcase nutritional values, thereby allowing consumers the most informed decision making when placing a meal or catering order. We have also expanded our vegetarian options, allowing for a sustainable environment and creating a smaller carbon footprint.
GBMC would like to recognize the following people for their contribution in the design and implementation of the Fitness and Wellness Center, and for bringing Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation™ to GBMC: JoAnn Ioannou, DNP, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, Senior Vice President, Patient Care Services & Chief Nursing Officer; Anna-Maria Palmer, Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer; Stacey McGreevy, CPA, Vice President Support Services; Simon Freyou, DNP, RN, ANP-BC, CHC, COHN-S, Director of Employee Health Services; Russ Sadler, Manager of Capital Resources; and Cate O’Connor-Devlin, BSN, RN, Senior Director of Patient Experience. We would also like to thank Sunday Jones, Director of Human Resources, Kimberly Davenport, Community Relations and Events Manager (Marketing), Kelly Bechtel, CDM, CFPP, Food and Nutrition Director, Michele Patchett, MSN, RN, Assistant Director, and Amanda Henderson, BSN, RN, CCRN for their involvement as Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation™ advocates at GBMC.
