A compassion exercise to find forgiveness for yourself - Sustain Humanity with Kindness Challenge - Day 2 Tip
Forgive Yourself With Compassion
Sometimes, we are our own worst critics. Learning from our mistakes is important for growth and development. But dwelling on blunders can sabotage our happiness and sense of fulfillment.
On the other hand, self-forgiveness can improve mental and emotional well-being and reduce stress and anxiety. A recent study also found that self-compassion can help us feel more compassion for others.
Your Action for Today
Practice self-forgiveness. Write down one thing you’re being hard on yourself for, then cross it out. Tell yourself, “I did the best I could with what I had in that moment — and that’s enough.”
This compassionate, symbolic “release” of guilt can boost your mental clarity and confidence.
Bonus Action: Encourage self-forgiveness in a friend or colleague if you see them dwelling on a mistake. Discuss with them how self-compassion during a difficult situation plays a role in resilience.
