Consider a Greener Mode of Transport — Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation — Green Your Routine Challenge — Day 3
Walk, Bike, or Carpool
Your method of transportation has a big impact on climate change. In the U.S., transportation accounts for approximately 28% of greenhouse gas emissions, thanks to the burning of gasoline and diesel.
Cutting emissions protects public health. It leads to cleaner air, fewer respiratory illnesses, and fewer climate-related health crises.
Your Action for Today
Spare the air by choosing a greener mode of transportation. If you live close enough to work, walk or bike. Plus, you’ll get added health and mood benefits from the physical activity!
For longer commutes, consider public transportation or carpooling with a fellow nurse. If that’s not feasible, try a hybrid solution: Drive partway to work, then walk or bike the rest of the way. Every effort counts.
Nurses make up the largest health care profession in the U.S. Imagine the impact on the environment if every one of the country’s millions of registered nurses chose a cleaner commuting method!
