Know When to Freeze It

It’s time to put your freezer to work for you. Freezing food extends the life of your leftovers and raw ingredients, saving you time and money — and reducing waste.

Take note: There’s a trick to freezing your food. According to the New York Times, protecting your food from air and moisture, which cause freezer burn, is key. Airtight containers and freezer bags prevent freezer burn. You can also invest in a vacuum sealer, which removes all of the air from a container before sealing it.

Although frozen food continuously stored at 0°F is safe to eat, the quality can decrease over time. To ensure the highest quality, label and date your food before putting it in the freezer and eat the oldest foods first.

Also, be aware that not all foods are freezer friendly. Read through a helpful list of what foods to freeze — or not.
