4 Ways to reframe conflict as a chance to grow and build trust — Healthy Nurse Healthy Nation™ Resolve Workplace Conflict — With Confidence Challenge — Day 1
Recognize Conflict as an Opportunity
The first step to learning conflict resolution is in how you perceive conflict. If the idea of conflict makes you want to head for the nearest exit, change your perspective!
The idea that conflict is “bad” may stem from looking at it through a scarcity lens — meaning we see a lack of “good” in the world. This mentality can make it feel like there has to be a “winner” and a “loser” to have a resolution. The trick is to see conflict as an opportunity for growth, change, creativity, or improvement — for both parties. When you look at conflict through that lens, it becomes a win-win instead of a win-lose situation.
Your Action for Tonight
Reframe conflict as a chance to grow and build trust. Reflect and journal about a time when a conflict led to positive change. Include information like:
- What triggered the conflict?
- How did the conflict make you feel?
- What helped the situation shift from conflict to resolution?
- What was the outcome?
- How did you feel about the resolution?
Write about how this experience shaped your understanding of the role conflict can play in building stronger relationships.
Bonus Action: Share your perspective in a team huddle. Talk about how respectful resolution strengthens collaboration. Encourage your coworkers to share their positive experiences, too.
