Day 8 — Repair and Reconnect

You may still have work to do after you resolve a conflict with a coworker. Nursing is a highly collaborative profession, requiring trust and mutual respect. If a conflict impairs your relationship with a teammate, you can take steps to restore goodwill and eliminate lingering tension.

Your Action for Today
Repair a work relationship that feels strained. Try using these helpful techniques:

  • Avoid blame: Show you are committed to the solution you agreed upon and want to work through it together.
  • Don’t dwell: The faster you can move on from the conflict, the faster you can repair things. Try to focus on moving forward and letting go of past feelings.
  • Get back to “we” and “us”: Focus on your shared purpose and use “we” or “us” instead of “you” or “I.” Let the other person know you appreciate how effective you are as a team.
  • Stay focused on the positive: Reframe your conflict as an opportunity to improve (see Day 1). Focus on the positive aspects of your relationship.

The goal isn’t to erase the conflict, but to transform it into an opportunity for stronger collaboration. You both want to feel heard, respected, and part of the same team.
