Create Calm - Mindful Meals challenge, powered by Compass One Healthcare - Day 2 Tip
As you get into day 2 of the Mindful Meals challenge, powered by Compass One Healthcare, keep in mind that though you can listen to your body all you want, you won’t hear it as easily if you’re stressed and tense.
Stress can affect the digestive system, disrupting your body’s ability to send accurate hunger and fullness cues. That explains why it’s so easy to overeat when you’re stressed!
When the mind is calmer, you’re less likely to eat emotionally. You also have more clarity to recognize your eating patterns and make healthier choices. You become more satisfied with the way you eat.
Today, let’s practice bringing a sense of calm into your eating habits. Follow any (or all) of these suggestions:
- Before your first bite of food, pause and take a few deep breaths to relax your body.
- When you're making dinner, listen to soothing music and breathe deeply.
- If you’re getting fast food, take 2-3 deep breaths before you place your order or get out of your car.
- If you have a few minutes to spare, do a short meditation before a meal.
