Day 2 — Set an Achievable SMART Goal
There is an art (and a science) to goal setting. If your goal is too vague or too big, it’s much harder to achieve. A better approach is to use the SMART method, which helps you narrow down your objectives and measure your progress. A SMART goal has 5 components:
- Specific: You state exactly what you plan to do, like walking and photographing every day.
- Measurable: Your goal should have a number — miles, steps, minutes, etc. — so you can track your progress.
- Attainable: Ensure you have the tools, time, and support you need.
- Realistic: The goal needs to fit within your life circumstances, including finances, current health status, and schedule.
- Time-bound: Set a deadline to ensure you meet your goal within a reasonable timeframe.
Your Action for Tonight
Create your SMART goal for your Snap & Steps challenge. Write it down and post it somewhere you’ll see it every day:
- In your journal
- On a whiteboard at work
- In your phone (saved as a background image)
- On a piece of paper taped to your bathroom mirror
With your goal set, you’re ready to begin!
Join us on day 3: A sneak peek - Memorialize your starting point.
