How Specific Appreciation Strengthens Connection, Belonging, and Well‑Being — Healthy Nurse Healthy Nation™ From Me to We: The Power of Connection Challenge — Day 6
Day 6 — Make Appreciation Specific
Appreciation helps people feel seen and valued. It can strengthen relationships, improve morale, and support a more positive environment.
In healthcare, much of the work is demanding and not always fully visible. A specific expression of appreciation can remind someone that their effort, presence, or care matters.
Appreciation is most meaningful when it is sincere and specific.
Your Action for Tonight
Consider offering a specific expression of appreciation. Instead of only saying “thank you,” name what you noticed. Here are some examples:
- Thank you for stepping in when things got busy
- I appreciated how calmly you handled that situation
- Your encouragement helped me today
- I noticed the care you put into that
- You made a difference
Notice how appreciation affects the interaction. Acknowledging effort is a small action that can strengthen connection and belonging.
