Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation - Beat the Burnout challenge sponsored by the American Nurses Foundation - Day 4 Tip - Armor up with gratitude to protect yourself from burnout 🙏🏼
If you've joined any of our past gratitude challenges, you know how much it can lift your spirits. Being grateful isn't just a nice feeling; it can really help when things get tough — especially if you're feeling overwhelmed by burnout.
Gratitude is powerful. We know from research that when patients say thank you, it helps nurses feel less drained, more fulfilled, and more connected to their work. That's one of the many reasons why more hospitals are making gratitude a part of their staff wellness plans.
Your Action for Today
Today is your chance to boost your mental health with gratitude. Consider any of these activities from our past challenges:
- Answer a daily gratitude question
- Fill-in-the-blank with things you're thankful for
- Do a guided meditation focused on being grateful
- Focus on grateful thoughts to ease anxiety
- Start meals with a thankful attitude
- Write down things you're thankful for in a journal
- Download the Gratitude Practice for Nurses Toolkit
You can also listen to podcasts from the Well-Being Initiative about gratitude in nursing.
