Count Your Blessings — Literally

It's Day 1 of the Cultivate Gratitude challenge!
With the pandemic, we all have experienced loss, sadness, fear, and/or anxiety. But try thinking about any positivity that has come out of this stressful time. For example, have you had more time with loved ones? Have you learned a new skill or rediscovered a hobby? Felt appreciation for an unexpected compliment, or a random act of kindness?
We do have so much to be thankful for. Whether it’s our health, our profession, family, friends, or our comfy bed— there’s more to appreciate than we often realize.
Consider starting your day on a positive note with intentional gratitude. Grab a pen and paper (or make a note in your phone) and jot down at least 3 items you’re grateful for. Before you go to sleep later, read your note to remember some of the things that make you appreciative and happy.
If you’re up for it, turn this activity into a habit. Continue doing this each morning to spread the positive feeling of gratefulness further. Try not to repeat any items on your list.

Let’s all spread some positivity. Here are some highlights from other nurses in our HNHN Connect Community:
- “At the end of the day, a quiet moment of reflection with the one thing I am thankful for written down in my Blessings journal does the trick.”
- "I have kept Gratitude Journals intermittently over the last few years & find that writing 3 ‘good things’ at the start of my day provides an instant lift.”
