Rest/Sleep Hygiene
Published
I am making a commitment to getting at least 6-7 hours of sleep at least 5 days a week. This has been a challenge working full time as a director of clinical operations, attending a full time DNP program, wife and mother of 3 children 7years and under. It takes conscious effort, commitment to self, and personal balance. I am very self aware and know my limitations. I consciously choose to take a 1-10minute break to refresh my mind through meditation, breathing exercises, or a brisk walk when I sense my stress or fatigue levels peaking. This helps me feel more rested and focused even though I am obtaining minimal amounts of sleep. I could also do a better job preparing my mind for sleep and practicing good sleep hygiene (i.e. meditation or breathing 10 minutes before bed to help turn my brain off, minimizing phone/TV distractions while in bed.
