June Is Employee Wellbeing Month. Find Your JOY!

by Angela O'Connor, MSN, RN, CMSRN and Jennifer Brady, MA, RD, LDN, Associate Director, Employee Benefits and Wellness, Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania

Employee WellBeing Month is a national campaign to celebrate wellness in the workplace; after all, employees spend most of their waking hours at work or commuting to and from there. This year’s theme at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) is “Find Your JOY”. Why Joy? It might not be the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about work. But, joy in the workplace makes a BIG difference, not only in how we feel about our work, but how we work. Happy employees = more productive employees who are more engaged and forge better working relationships with colleagues. The Employee Wellness team at Penn Medicine has partnered with the Renewal Center and other key groups at HUP to offer a variety of activities throughout the month of June.

  • A Puppies and Pressure Event to pet a pup, eat popsicles, and screen employee for hypertension
  • Inner Balance training with a staff chaplain
  • And Recess – think games, coloring books, cards, Uno, etc.
  • Every employee can find and create joy in our workplace. Get on your path to find it, spread it, and live with it!
