Your Action for Today
Define the ways your life can benefit from improved mental well-being. Let these “whys” serve as motivation to stay consistent with your 1-5-5 daily practice. Then, move on to:
- 1 minute of gratitude: Look around and notice something that brings you joy. It might be the sunlight outside your window, a photo of your loved one, a hot cup of tea, or anything else that makes you smile. Take a moment to appreciate it.
- 5 minutes of positive reflection: Listen to an uplifting song (or 2). Choose music that makes you feel empowered, peaceful, motivated, or happy. Many music streaming services enable you to filter playlists by mood, like “happy” or “upbeat.”
- 5 minutes of physical movement: Dance! Research shows that dancing improves your mood while keeping you fit. You can dance alone or grab a partner and share the joy together. Move your feet in time to the beat of today’s uplifting song, and you’ll complete 2 of your 1-5-5 exercises at the same time.
Consider these daily doses of self-care as investments in your long-term health.
