We're accepting the Challenge! The nurses of Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck, N.J., are thrilled to announce we accepted the Healthy Nurse Healthy Nation Grand Challenge (HNHN) as we celebrated National Nurses Week! As inspired by one of our med-surg nurses, Marissa Brown, and announced by our CNO/Vice President of Patient Care Services, Dr. Sheryl Slonim, Holy Name Medical Center is proud to be engaged as a Champion partner in HNHN.
So what are we doing to begin our journey? First up, we started with the 5 for 10 Challenge, sharing recipes and tips to make sure we eat at least five servings of fruits and veggies for 10 days and onward. Whether it’s adding fruit to our cereal or grains to our dinner, or even trying meatless meals with veggie burgers, we’re ready to make these healthy changes. Next we are looking forward to taking on the Hydration Challenge to drink more water, something that benefits all of us but can be difficult to do when we are busy with patient care or worrying about where we left our water bottles.
As all of you know, working in a hospital with miles of hallways and multiple levels means lots of walking, but why wait for elevators? We are enhancing our health by creating our own One Flight Up, Two Flights Down Challenge. Taking the stairs can actually be a timesaver and a great way to get those extra steps in. We’re also ready for our medical center’s Walk for Mom Breast Cancer Awareness Walk-a-Thon on June 9. What’s better than combining fitness with a wonderful way to raise funds to provide hundreds of free mammograms for low-income women in the community? Walk on, my nurse colleagues, and let’s have fun improving our own wellness!
