Discover how MUSC provides fresh, nutritious food, fitness programming, and rejuvenation opportunities for their employees and community.
As a Champion in Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation™ (HNHN), the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) uses multiple communication mediums to promote HNHN to our employees. We leverage our shared governance councils at both the unit level and organizational level. MUSC also disseminates HNHN messages and resources via internal e-newsletters and through our shift huddles.
Our Office of Health Promotion offers a comprehensive employee well-being program focusing on policies, systems, and the environment to promote a culture of well-being for all care team members. In addition, we recently launched a new enterprise-wide employee well-being campaign to support our 5-year strategic plan goal of building healthy communities called Imagine U: Building Well-being Together. More information can be found on our website at musc.edu/ohp.
Some of our most popular wellness opportunities include free chair massages, worksite screenings, fitness classes, a farmers market, urban farm programming, and healthier food offerings in the cafeteria.
Specifically, MUSC is piloting a program around Simply-to-Go, supported by Sodexo. This is a 60-day nutrition pilot to improve the eating habits of nurses by offering take-away, fresh, seasonal and locally sourced food items. We also have a stop-light program in our vending machines to promote healthier choices and are currently seeking proposals for a new healthy vending contract.
MUSC would like to recognize Kelly Wagner, BSN, RN who has been instrumental in supporting and implementing our newest health and wellness initiatives.
