Nurses throughout the state have joined NMNA's Healthy Nurse, Healthy New Mexico (HNHNM) Special Interest Group where topics such as a built environment for walking, honoring the nutritious foods from Native American and Hispanic cultures, and building a relationship-based culture of civility have been among the initiatives taken up by communities across the state. NMNA was awarded a Best Business award by the mayor of Santa Fe for its focus on health, well-being and advocacy.

NMNA hosted its 3rd Healthy Nurse Conference as part of National Nurses Week, May 7th and 8th, 2018. In 2017, ANA President Pam Cipriano was the keynote speaker, launching HNHN. In 2018, a pre-conference workshop day was added to the conference as a HNHNM Train the Trainer session, led by Barbara Dossey, Camille Adair and other Healthy Nurse leaders throughout the state. NMNA's quarterly New Mexico Nurse, which is distributed to over 6,000 nurses throughout New Mexico, has had a regular HNHNM column, including interviews with nurses throughout the state.

The Healthy Nurse movement in NM has also served as outreach and networking for student nurse associations and nurse entrepreneurs. Through the value of inclusivity, NMNA continues to form alliances and affiliates with other nursing organizations such as the New Mexico Holistic Nurses Association with a shared vision of supporting the health and well-being of nurses in New Mexico.
