Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation - Find Your Balance Challenge - Day 9 Tip - Talk To Others & Share

Published
Welcome to day 9 of the Find Your Balance challenge.

It can be beneficial to know that you’re not the only one who feels stretched. Talk to friends or colleagues and ask them how they achieve work-life balance. Here are some ideas:
  • Share what you have learned about yourself during this challenge in our discussion or on Facebook.
  • Discuss your ideas of how to make your work more pleasurable or fulfilling with your manager or HR.
  • Make an appointment with a nurse coach or counselor to discuss strategies to use when you get overwhelmed.

Missed day 8? Catch up here. Get a sneak peek at day 10.

I love the previous comment about getting to know peers as people not just colleagues. Building connections and building respect and trust is so important.
Think about a challenging or difficult situation - then compare trying to handle that feeling alone and isolated compared to as part of a team and supported? Building those connections takes time and effort but a fun way to do it is finding opportunities to do things together out of work. This may strengthen the team and can builds in some work life balance time too.

Also, we can always learn from each other and empathize with each other. Some of us may appear to balance and make time for everything and others may struggle to find time and have a constant long to-do list, but all of us learning through our experiences.  Be aware that appearances can be deceptive...even people that appear to be the most "put together" "well-balanced" outwardly, may have concerns or challenges going on behind that outward appearance they project to the world.

Like with the connections, and coaching, sometimes just having someone to talk to and brainstorm ideas can help an individual work things out for themselves. It's like being a peer coach to each other. As coach, I don't tell anyone what to do. I encourage them to explore and find their own solutions to what they perceive are their goals and opportunities and identified areas for change.

We have to leverage our mindset and the power of our thoughts and intentions to put physical and mental changes in action into play. Talking things through and sharing experiences of success, growth or new ideas with others helps us explore other options and try out opportunities to decide what fits or might fit for us. Talking with colleagues is a way to help support each other as we all try to create better work-life integration and sense of balance.
