Keep Advocating For Change
Published
Thank you for participating in the #healthynurse #EndNurseAbuse Challenge!
Who you spend most of your time with has a significant impact on your health, therefore it is imperative that we all strive towards a positive, healthy work environment. By working to improve the way your workplace responds to violent incidents, you can help #EndNurseAbuse.
After all, it’s not OK, nor should it be commonplace. It will never be acceptable to abuse a nurse.
Keep up the great work and continue to be proactive with your safety by using any of these ideas:
- Explore what support is available from your employer following an incident.
- If an escort is available or offered, use them.
- Take a self-defense class.
- Take the CDC’s free course on workplace violence prevention for nurses.
- Update your emergency contact document.
- Volunteer to participate in a facility-wide committee investigating incidents.
How has this challenge changed your perceptions of incivility, bullying, or workplace violence? How will you work to combat bullying and violence? Let us know in the challenge update thread here, in our private Facebook group, or on Twitter, or Instagram. Tag us with #healthynurse.

Really appreciated all of the tips, strategies and resources that were provided during this challenge.
As nurses we are encouraged to advocate for our patient's wellbeing and safety, it is equally important that we advocate for our own wellbeing & safety also.
Wellbeing initiatives often take the form of incorporating self-care more effectively into work/life integration through self directed and workplace driven efforts. Those we often talk about and explore here.
However a safe and supportive workplace environment is essential and something we should all be able to expect when we go to work each day. Like all change, active participation in the process is necessary for change to happen.
