Don’t Struggle Alone

Your social network, or "social blanket," is one of the greatest indicators of your well-being. This includes friends, coworkers, neighbors, and relatives. Everyone needs someone they can talk to, get advice from, feel supported by, and lean on in times of need.
As we come to the end of this Busting Burnout challenge, remember that you don’t have to struggle alone. Everyone should have a “safe person” to turn to. Who is yours?
There’s a stigma associated with mental health and burnout that makes people feel like they must suffer alone. You might be surrounded by a huge group of people, but still feel like you have no one to turn to — because it’s too risky.
For example, maybe you think that if you open up to someone about your burnout, you won't be considered for a letter of recommendation or a promotion. That makes you bottle it up and stay quiet.
If you have a mentor, don’t be afraid to rely on them now. Explore more about mentorship:
If you don’t have a mentor, find someone else to talk to. It doesn’t have to be a coworker or manager — but everyone needs someone.
Sometimes when we’re stressed or even burned out, we’re the last to realize it. If you don’t know where to start with resources, perhaps take the America Nurses Foundation’s new Stress Self-Assessment to gain insight into your well-being and find resources to help support you.
Now that you’ve learned some healthy burnout coping mechanisms over the past 10 days, we’d love to know how you’re doing. Do you notice a difference in how you feel? Share with us in our in our challenge update thread here or on Facebook.
