Although we often put our health and safety at risk while on the job, one of the most dangerous aspects of being a nurse is the possibility of contracting a bloodborne disease through a needlestick or sharps injury.
The CDC reports that 385,000 health care workers sustain sharps injuries each year. According to the International Safety Center’s Exposure Prevention Information Network (EPINet®) more than a third (33.4%) of all incidents occur to nurses. Of those injuries occurring to nurses, more than 50 percent happen in the patient or exam room.
During this 10-day challenge, we’ll post a new task each day to help raise awareness of — and prevent — sharps injuries.
Starts August 20. Click “Yes” under “Ready to Join?” above to sign up. Get started here.
