It’s day 1 of the Don't Get Stuck challenge. Today's tip is to choose safer sharps. According to data from EPINet®, which is a surveillance database used to measure occupational exposures to blood and body fluids, the number one sharp that causes injury to nurses is disposable hypodermic needles (49.4%).

To lower your risk, advocate for your institution to use safer devices with sharps injury protection (SIP). Encourage your organization to include front-line nurses in the selection and evaluation of sharps safety devices. Since OSHA requires the use of these devices, this task also ensures the organization will be in compliance with national and state regulations.
