Exercise For 30 Minutes Or Try A Meditation.


Welcome to day 5 of the Your Best Sleep Yet! challenge, powered by support from Compass One Healthcare.

You’re probably wondering, “What’s exercise doing in a sleep challenge?” Studies show that exercise helps many people fall asleep faster and sleep more soundly. Listen to your body — find a time of day and type of exercise that feels right for you.

How? Exercise can:
  • Increase the amount of slow wave (deep) sleep you get
  • Stabilize your mood
  • Decompress the mind

Tonight try to incorporate 30 minutes of moderate physical activity before bed. Try walking, jogging, cycling, dancing, or jumping rope. Opt for something that gets your heart rate up, but start slow. If you’re not already exercising, start with 10 minutes per day and work your way up to 30 minutes. Don't have time to do squeeze this in tonight? You can try to fit in exercise into your days or evenings over the weekend. Tip: Pay attention to what time of day you exercise. Some people find that exercising close to bedtime keeps them awake longer. If you are one of those people, avoid strenuous activity within 3 hours before you go to sleep.
