Tackle Your Lawn Care To-Dos

Published
It's day 5 of the Building Your Strength Challenge, powered by Humana.

It’s true: Outdoor chores like mowing the grass, pulling weeds, and spreading mulch are hard work. While they’re boxes you want to check off your to-do list, there are more benefits to lawn care than you think. It’s also a great way to build strength in different muscle groups.

For example, the American Heart Association (AHA) considers gardening moderate exercise. Build muscle strength with one of these outdoor tasks:
  • Planting flowers or vegetables
  • Pulling weeds
  • Shoveling, hauling, and spreading mulch or river rock
  • Digging up dead plants
  • Mowing the lawn
It’s varying your movement, especially when working the lower body, that uses more muscles and builds strength. Think squats and heavy lifting or pushing. Get out there and check an item off your to-do list while strengthening your body.
