Help End The Stigma

Published
There’s an unspoken “belief” that when your mental health is hurting, you’re weak and unreliable And there’s another unspoken “belief,” especially in the world of nursing, that sharing your struggles will result in professional barriers-

Accepting these misconceptions and blindly following them only encourages us to ignore the importance of mental health. It takes an unapologetic advocate to spark change in the right direction.

Will you be that advocate?

Make your voice heard. Become an advocate for mental health among your colleagues, friends, and family. Use these guidelines:
  • If negativity from coworkers is affecting your mood, be like a butterfly and flutter on.
  • Let your coworkers know they can trust you. Don’t spread gossip. Keep your promises.
  • Help create, promote, and use the mental health resources at your workplace.
  • Honor, thank, appreciate, and recognize your coworkers.
  • Role model positive mental health practices. Take breaks when you can, carve out vacation time, decompress with trusted allies, and discuss concerns with your healthcare provider.

Reminder: You can access the mindfulness app Headspace at no cost. HNHN members are eligible for free access to Headspace.

Congratulations on completing this mental health challenge! We’re SO proud of you. Keep prioritizing your mental well-being — you deserve it.
