Take A Savoring Walk

Published
There’s something to be said about savoring the moment. When we savor positive experiences, they have a greater emotional impact on us because they sink into our memories and linger with us long after they’ve ended. And according to research, this can increase feelings of thankfulness, appreciation, and happiness.

Today’s goal is to “savor” the moment on a walk. Depending on the weather where you live, try to get outside for a 15–20-minute stroll in nature. During the walk, take in as many pleasant things as you can — sights, sounds, smells, and feelings.

Maybe you notice the way sunshine reflects off a puddle, the scurry of a squirrel, or the quiet stillness of winter. As you notice different sensations, pause and think about them. What makes them positive? What feelings do they evoke in you?

The purpose of this walk is to notice and enjoy the small things — something you normally wouldn’t pay attention to. Use this moment to soak up the bounty of goodness around you.
