Find Joy In Your Food - Mindful Meals challenge, powered by Compass One Healthcare - Day 8 Tip

When we hurry through meals, eating becomes another task on our to-do lists. It’s something we must do to have energy and sustain ourselves, but it’s not enjoyable.

We could all use a little more joy in our lives. Why not find enjoyment in the little things, like our meals? Learning the concepts of mindful eating includes learning to savor your food so that eating brings you joy. Mindful eating teaches you to experience glee in every bite.

Today’s tip focuses on enjoying your food. Before you eat your snacks and meals today, ask yourself these questions:
  • How do you want to feel while you’re eating?
  • How do you want to feel when you’re done eating?

Choose foods that are not only nutritious, but delicious, too. Healthy food can also be joyful food. Fill your plate with items that help you accomplish how you want to feel not only while you’re eating but also after you’re done. If you want to feel nourished and satisfied, choose foods that will achieve those tasks. Give yourself permission to feel happiness and satisfaction while you eat and drink.

A famous exercise that engages all these aspects of mindful eating is the Raisin Meditation. It only takes about 5 minutes and is guaranteed to give you the full experience of enjoying your food, in this case a raisin.
