Research reveals that thinking positively about your future is a powerful motivator. By imagining your best possible future self, you're increasing your present happiness. You’re also setting the wheels in motion for a future that aligns with your dreams.

To grow your optimism, follow these steps, adapted from the Greater Good Science Center:
  1. Visualize your ideal future: Envision your future — a life where health and well-being take center stage. Picture the best version of yourself, thriving in your health, relationships, career, hobbies, and personal growth.
  2. Write it down: Set aside the next 15 minutes to write about this exciting future. Focus on these guidelines:
  3. Be specific: Dive into the details. If you imagine a healthier lifestyle, visualize your daily routines, activities, and emotions.
  4. Let your imagination run free: Explore different aspects of your life and how they come together harmoniously in your ideal future.
  5. Get into the weeds: Think about how every aspect of your life contributes to your well-being. For instance, if you envision vibrant health, picture yourself engaging in activities you love, surrounded by supportive friends and family.
  6. Overcome limiting thoughts: While writing, don't let past obstacles cloud your vision. Instead, imagine that circumstances have shifted in your favor, aligning with your aspirations.
  7. Get lost in the vision: As you imagine different aspects of your future, immerse yourself in the details. If you imagine a fulfilling career, consider the tasks, colleagues, and accomplishments that bring you joy.
