Welcome to day 1 of the Move More Now challenge, powered by support from Humana!
Sedentary lifestyles are more dangerous than most people think. One study found that sitting for eight hours a day poses similar health risks as those stemming from obesity or smoking.
Having a sedentary lifestyle, which researchers now refer to as “sitting disease,” may be one of the most unanticipated health threats of our modern time. Luckily, simple lifestyle changes can combat this health risk.
On day one of our Move More challenge, alternate between sitting and standing every 30 minutes. Set an alarm on your watch, computer, phone, or even your oven clock. After 30 minutes of sitting, get up and stand for at least 2 minutes. Keep going with this rotation throughout the workday.
