Switch To Healthier Proteins - Eat Clean, Go Green challenge, powered by Compass One Healthcare - Day 2 Tip

Today is day 2 of the Go Green, Eat Clean challenge, powered by Compass One Healthcare. Now that you understand the impact meat production has on the environment (and health), you can start eating healthier, more sustainable proteins.

Flexitarians are people who only consume meat only occasionally, and this trend is growing. The Food Institute says that about 15% of the population is flexitarian. One survey found that 63% of participants said they’d go flexitarian if plant-based alternatives met specific criteria. A YouGov poll found that 32% of Americans planned to eat more vegan foods in 2022.

If you want to cut down on your meat consumption, you still need a healthy amount of protein. That makes plant-based proteins all-the-more important.

Swapping in plant-based proteins, like tofu, nuts, beans, pulses (beans, lentils, and peas) and legumes, or plant-based foods, is much better for the climate — and your health.

Try one of these ideas:
  • Replace ground beef with beans in vegetarian chili or lasagna
  • Swap the chicken in your salad with tofu
  • Try jackfruit in place of pulled pork or shredded chicken
  • Eat less meat and more nuts, which are a healthier, less processed source of protein
  • Choose meat substitutes which are now offered at many restaurant chains
