Welcome to day 3 of the Level Up Challenge, sponsored by Humana!

Today’s strategy for leveling up your health: Harnessing your unique strengths to propel your wellness journey forward.

Studies show that focusing on our strengths can boost happiness and reduce depression. Additional research found that it increases well-being and satisfaction with life.

If you ever feel discouraged about living a healthy lifestyle, use this exercise from the Greater Good Science Center to zone in on your strengths and get motivated:

  1. Find your strength: Reflect on your strengths in the context of health and wellness. It could be your determination, empathy, discipline, resilience, or any other quality you possess. Choose one that resonates with you.
  2. Use it to your advantage: Consider how to leverage this strength to improve your well-being. For example, if you chose "resilience," challenge yourself to embrace a new exercise routine that tests your endurance.
  3. Plan and act: Describe in writing the strength you chose and your plan to apply it. Commit to practicing this strength as often as possible throughout the day, making it part of your routine.
  4. Practice consistently: Repeat the exercise daily for a week. You can focus on the same strength for multiple days or explore different strengths each day.
  5. Reflect and record: At the end of the week, write about the strengths you focused on and how this exercise impacted your health journey. Describe your actions, how you felt, and the insights you gained from the experience.

Align your health journey with your authentic self. Tap into your strengths and infuse them into your health and wellness goals. You’ll be glad you did.
