Over the past 9 days, you’ve used a large portion of your pantry staples. Now it’s time to stock up again.

Let’s end this 10-day challenge by re-filling your pantry with healthy, long-lasting options that allow you to continue upcycling your food. When shopping for groceries, consider these tips to continue to reduce food waste, refresh your dishes, and save money:
  • Waste less food: Purchase frozen and canned fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins (tuna, salmon, chicken, and beans) — which have a longer shelf life. Frozen produce can be used in smaller portions, reducing spoilage. Choose low- or no-sodium canned goods as a healthier option.
  • Get creative with herbs and spices: Invest in a variety of herbs and spices to enhance flavors and refresh your dishes without the need for extra, less healthy ingredients.
  • Opt for bulk items: Buy whole grains (brown rice, quinoa), nuts, and dried fruits in bulk to reduce packaging waste and save money in the long run.
  • Embrace versatile ingredients: Choose items like Greek yogurt and eggs that can serve as the base for a wide range of dishes, reducing the need for specialty items.
  • Plan your meals in advance: Create a weekly meal plan and shopping list to prevent overbuying and ensure you use what you purchase. This helps save both food and your wallet.

When you shop smart and select items with health and longevity in mind, you set yourself up for success in the kitchen. This allows you to continue upcycling your food so you can make nutritious dishes for yourself and your family.
