Ask for Help - Healthy Nurse, Healthy Nation - Find Your Balance challenge - Day 7

Published

Is there a “superpower” that makes juggling tasks at work and home a little easier? The answer lies in a simple yet mighty skill — asking for help.

If you find it hard to delegate tasks at work and home, try to shift your mindset. Instead of viewing it as burdening others, see it as fostering teamwork and mutual support. You do not have to do it all yourself. Recognize that your colleagues and loved ones are there to help you.

Next, identify specific tasks that others could easily handle or share. During a shift, take a mental note of what your colleagues are good at, and then ask them to help with specific tasks based on their skills. At home, you could ask for support from family members to complete household chores. By pinpointing manageable tasks, you create an opportunity for others to contribute without overwhelming them.

When you approach someone for help, be clear and specific about your needs. People appreciate direct communication, and it helps avoid misunderstandings. Try this wording: "Hey, I could use your help with [specific task] since you're really good at it. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed, and your support would mean a lot. Can you please help?"

Remember, asking for help doesn't make you weak; it strengthens your ability to maintain a healthier work-life balance.
